I kept feeling that something about this image was off. I really loved it but something didn't feel right. I think it was the squareness of the overall piece. I adjusted the image to be taller and thinner and I think it is much better now. I feel it makes the scene more close and intimate and helps to draw the viewer's eye up to the menacing tower in the distance. Constructive criticism is always welcome. Do you think changing the image dimensions makes it better or was the square 2600x2600 pixel version better? I personally like this one.

's Red Challenge. It's been awhile since I took part in a challenge so I don't remember the levels exactly. I guess I'll be entering the Advanced category? If the mods at the group think I should be in another level then feel free to move my entry as such.
This piece is based on a recurring dream I've had since I was a kid that's very Red Riding Hood-esque. I really wanted to try and bring some depth to it. In the actual dream I'm not Red Riding Hood but I am running towards a twisted tower in the distance. The sky is red in the dream and the trees are solid black and Tim Burton-esque and cartoony. I've tried to stay true to that combination of red/black while also making it more realistic and less cartoony than the dream is. Although I have put wolves tracking the girl in the image, in my dream the creatures change. Sometimes when I have this dream it is indeed wolves chasing me; sometimes it's vampires or faceless shadows. I have no clue what it could mean but the visuals are pretty freaking awesome. I feel I have really done it justice in this piece. :3

What is immediately outstanding to me is the bright red of the sky which makes the tower in the distance become the major focal point. This could be fine but I find that how dark everything else is there's really nothing that leads into the rest of the picture. It's too dark so the red is overly jarring and it's hard to really make out anything else in the rest of the picture. I like the idea though it does have a good sense of mood. It seems most of your works do and that's a strength you should keep working on. Keep up the good work dude!
